In 2022, consumers worldwide spent 24 billion USD on green energy, often with little information about its source. Granular Energy, a startup that has raised 7.5 million EUR, aims to enhance transparency in green energy procurement and direct consumer spending to where and when clean energy is most urgently needed. The funding round was led by the venture capital firm Norrsken VC, with support from All Iron Ventures, Box Group, Valo Ventures, and participation from existing investors Seedcamp, Revent, and Powerhouse Ventures. The startup provides a new software category to energy providers, automating the management and allocation of energy certificates, improving operational efficiency, reducing risks, and allowing energy providers to offer their customers a completely new level of transparency by showing consumers exactly where their energy comes from and when it was generated (along with the associated carbon emissions). Granular Energy is part of the latest SpinLab startup class.
While there are currently no legal regulations mandating such disclosure, some energy providers are already voluntarily offering this information in response to the growing demand from business customers for greater transparency. The interest is substantial, and Granular Energy's software is already being used by 25 energy providers in 9 countries worldwide.
