1.6 million people in Germany suffer from dementia and gradually lose their mental abilities. At the beginning of the disease, short-term memory and ability to remember are affected. In this pre-dementia stage, there are no approved medications in Europe yet. However, a combination therapy of exercise, memory training, social participation and a balanced diet can positively influence the course of the disease.
Memodio, a spin-off from the University of Potsdam and the Hasso-Plattner Institute, implements these insights into a user-friendly app and also uses the latest insights on preventing dementia for people with beginning memory problems. Patients go through a daily individualized therapy plan, which can fight dementia at an early stage.
The digital health startup from Potsdam has secured €400K from HPI Seed Fund, the FMW Foundation, and Mosel Ventures. Many business angels, such as Oliver Heine and Bettina Seim (Heine Optotechnik), Daniel Lauchardt, and Alex Pushilov (Founder & CEO Apriwell), also participated in the round.
Dr. Doron Stein, CEO of memodio explains,“ In recent years, there has been increasing scientific knowledge about which non-drug therapies have an effect on cognitive decline. However, this knowledge is not available to most patients. memodio translates the latest findings into therapy for those affected so that they can individually reduce their risk of dementia. The feedback from users so far has been very positive. Together with our investors, we now want to rapidly complete and scale our product for the benefit of the many people affected by this disease.”
The Potsdam based startup was part of the 13th SpinLab class. With its cutting-edge technology and dedicated team, memodio is well-positioned to continue its growth and achieve its mission of fighting dementia.
