Class 10 has virtually arrived at the SpinLab

The new class of SpinLab - The HHL Accelerator was received virtually in the rooms of Leipzig’s historical cotton mill today. Within six weeks, the Accelerator team switched their model to a 100% digital format, ensuring that the eight innovative teams can keep on working on furthering their energy, smart infrastructure and eHealth concepts. In the coming semester, and despite the current situation, the current class will profit from the accelerator’s curriculum and new digital service. From air quality sensors, to a "Netflix for (art) exhibitions", to digital inheritance management, to magnetic cooling systems, the current class promises high potential for innovation!

Virtual onboarding at SpinLab

For the first time in SpinLab history, Eric Weber, CEO of the accelerator, gave a virtual tour through the premises. Even under the current circumstances, the new class started as usual with the "Welcome Day", during which the startups were encouraged to hold their pitches. Being part of the program provides the teams with funding of up to 15,000 EUR, a comprehensive and customized coaching and mentoring program, and access to a broad network of partners and investors who will support the founders with their industry expertise, during and after the class. As in the previous semesters, the 26 partner companies and the startups will once again work together on collaborative projects. These eight startups were able to prevail over a large number of high-quality applicants.

Walter’s Cube

The start-up offers a platform for digital tours – a "Netflix for exhibitions", as they call it themselves. The digitization of museums and galleries is currently more in demand than ever – visitors often get free access or have to subscribe to visit exclusive exhibitions virtually. These are available 24/7 and can be accessed from any device. More than 300 institutions and galleries have already uploaded their exhibitions to the platform, and visitors from over 100 countries and more than 2,000 cities around the world are already using Walter's Cube.

home-iX

home-iX provides an integration platform for smart home applications, enabling companies to connect smart-x ecosystems and develop context-sensitive, intelligent digital services. By providing an interface, it makes it easier for developers to integrate different devices and services (such as Alexa or Google Home).

ready2plugin

With its intelligent energy management system ready2plugin transforms energy projects into do-it-yourself products: Consumers become "prosumers" and can be both producers and consumers of solar systems and battery storage with this easy-to-use solution. By ensuring the permissible current load, ready2plugin is the only system that offers a cost-effective, standards-compliant DIY solution.

MedicSen

Diabetics and many other chronically ill people have to give themselves injections at regular intervals. Due to the use of needles, these cause both pain and discomfort and increase the risk of infection. That’s why MedicSen is developing a device that enables needle-free and mobile drug delivery. The device is able to open the micropores of the skin and to guide macromolecules under the skin – without punctures or pain.

Breeze Technologies

Breeze Technologies is one of the leading technology providers for air quality sensors. The start-up helps cities and businesses to monitor and analyze their air quality in real time and find ways to improve their situation. The quality of the data is ensured by machine learning and big data technologies.

memoresa

The start-up has the world's first portal for automated digital estate administration using artificial intelligence. memoresa offers support for surviving dependents and the deceased themselves and will initially focus on the German market.

Magnotherm

MagnoTherm Solutions develops and builds magnetocaloric cooling units. The technology of magnetic cooling is up to 40% more efficient than gas based cooling systems. Water is used to transport heat and cold. The resulting low-maintenance system, which does not require any gas or compressor, allows the development of highly specialized cooling systems as well as savings of carbon dioxide and corresponding operating costs.

aidhere

Aidhere offers digital, data-based therapy programmes. Its first product focuses on long-term obesity therapy and is scheduled to be adopted by health insurance companies as of fall 2020 under the Digital Healthcare Act (DVG). Their data-based behavioral therapy is highly scalable through the use of artificial intelligence.

Smart Infrastructure Ventures as important investor

The SpinLab is one of the twelve Digital Infrastructure Hub locations that form a digital network between start-ups, science and established companies and is an initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. One of the region's major investors is Smart Infrastructure Ventures, which will once again be involved in financing the start-ups with a focus on e-health, energy and Smart City.
